Kendrick Scott Oracle returns April 5 with the release of A Wall Becomes A Bridge, an inspiring new 12-song cycle about overcoming obstacles both personal and collective. The album was produced by Derrick Hodge, and find’s the drummer and composer augmenting his long-running quintet with the addition of turntablist Jahi Sundance who joins guitarist Mike Moreno, pianist Taylor Eigsti, reedist John Ellis, and bassist Joe Sanders to expand Oracle’s palette. A new track “>>>>>>>>>Voices” is available today to stream or download.
The New York Times playlisted the album’s first single “>>>>>>>>>>>Mocean,” writing that “Scott invests seriously in the ancient ideal of music as a healing force, and the notion that through focus and attunement, he might create sounds that resonate with our particular moment. He’s one of more consistent bandleaders in instrumental music today, with original music that feels consequential and distinguished.”
Kendrick Scott Oracle will tour behind the release of the A Wall Becomes A Bridge including shows in Detroit, Boston, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, and Tokyo.
