Julian Lage has shared “Familiar Flower,” the latest single from the guitarist’s forthcoming Blue Note debut Squint, which will be released on June 11. “Familiar Flower” is a dedication to the great Charles Lloyd, with whom Lage has had the opportunity to play in recent years, including an appearance on the legendary saxophonist’s celebratory 2020 album 8: Kindred Spirits (Live from The Lobero).
“Charles somehow writes and arranges his songs so that the second the beat starts, you know it’s his tune,” says Lage. “His DNA is just embedded into the rhythm section. I still don’t know how he does it, but I tried to write that tune so that the tone is set before I even come in.”

Lage has also announced a North American tour for the Fall beginning September 25 at Los Angeles, CA’s Teragram Ballroom, and concluding the first leg on October 9 at Toronto, ONT’s Axis Club. The dates pick up again on December 4 at (Le) Poisson Rouge in New York City and continue through December 12 at Nashville, TN’s The Basement East.
